Prime Minister James Marape says the PANGU Pati convention has focused heavily on policies the party will take into the 2027 National Elections and beyond.

Speaking during the convention on Friday evening, Marape said party ministers presented reports on achievements made under the current government, with discussions now centered on future policy directions.

“But I want to also indicate we are reforming the party,” Marape said.

“It is here that we are confirming our policies to take to 2027 and our policy for the next phase.”

Marape said the convention reviewed reports presented by party ministers and leaders as part of the party’s internal process.

“And I must say that all Pangu ministers reported on what they've achieved. It was expected by the convention for the reports, the president's report.”

He said the convention will guide what policies the party takes into the next national election.

“And based on this report, president, this convention will go through and direct through the council meetings what is the set of policies that we take to the elections and beyond.”

The Prime Minister also said the party is strengthening its internal systems to ensure policies are developed through proper party structures.

“This is a mature system that I have helped set up for the party now.”

Marape said more announcements on party policies are expected after the convention concludes.

“I will call a press on Monday afternoon in terms of the policy for announcement.”

PANGU Pati currently holds 53 seats in Parliament ahead of the 2027 National Elections, expected to be held in April 2027.
