Sir John calls for cooperation within communities in Independence message

Minister for Police, Sir John Pundari questions citizens in the country as we near the 51st Independence celebration and has called communities for more cooperation within.

“We have come far. We have made mistakes, and we have learned. Independence is not a destination we reached in 1975; it is a responsibility we carry every single day.

“My question for our 51st year is simple: What am I contributing to the PNG that will exist 50 years from now? Am I contributing to crime, to lawlessness, to illicit trade, to corrupt practices and destroying the very land that will bury me?

“Or am I contributing to PNG's best national interest, with care and love for all? Because a better, safer PNG will not be built by government alone. It will be built by you and me.” Sir John said.

Sir John said for a safer PNG, illegal guns have to be surrendered, stop tribal fights, gender violence and drug abuse, protect women and children and speak up if we see things wrong in our community.

“For a United PNG: Respect other cultures and religions. We are One People, One Nation, One Future. Division will kill us, cooperation will build us. Be patriotic, don’t talk your country down. The flag will still fly after the celebrations.” Sir John said.

Police minister said, learn from past mistakes and commit to real and hard work.

He urged citizens to move from complaining to contributing, from division to cooperation and from dependency to capability.
