Dr. Ken: Medical donations to undergo quality control validation prior distribution
The Simbu Provincial Health Authority CEO Dr. Kassi Ken has issued a firm directive that all medical supplies donated to health facilities must pass through official quality control channels before being distributed or used, emphasizing that patient safety is non-negotiable.
Speaking to NBC Simbu, Dr. Ken stressed that while donations are welcome, unvalidated drugs can pose serious health risks to consumers.
"Medicine drug donations must, however, come to the right channels for quality control check before they are dispatched and consumed," Dr. Ken said.
He instructed the Officer-in-Charge at Monono Sub-Health Centre and Wangoi Health Center to bring all donated items to the Provincial Pharmacist for a validation check, stressing that drugs are chemicals and without proper quality control can be dangerous and harmful to the consumers.
The CEO's warning comes today after PNG international rugby league star Justin Olam personally delivered medical supplies worth K30,000 to Monono Sub-Health Centre and Wangoi Health Centre in Elimbari LLG, Chuave district over last week.
Mr Olam, through the Olam Foundation, transported the donations where he was warmly received by health workers, church representatives, and community members at Monono Sub-Health Centre.
Dr. Ken directed all donors to refer their contributions to Simbu PHA Headquarters so proper processes can be initiated to validate donations before they reach health facilities.
"Do not take drugs and medical consumables and equipment for and on behalf of health facilities without quality check from Simbu PHA authorities," Dr. Ken warned.
"Donations are needed," he acknowledged, "but quality control is non-negotiable for patient safety." he said.
