The PNG Barramundis are currently in Guernsey, where they have completed three trial matches as part of their preparations for the upcoming Jersey Tour.

The warm-up fixtures provided plenty of positives, with the team sharpening their skills and building strong momentum ahead of an important international campaign.

Adding a special touch to the Guernsey stopover was the support of the Kaiulo family, Papua New Guineans living in Guernsey. For three days, Mr Vele, his wife Elizabeth, and their son Genailiwa Kaiulo
proudly cheered on the Barramundis, flying the PNG colours from the stands.

In recognition of their support, PNG Barramundis batsman Kipling Doriga presented a team training shirt to the family on behalf of the squad. The gesture was made yesterday, Monday 18 August 2025, during the team’s final day in Guernsey.

Coach John Ovia said the players were inspired by the unexpected home support. He said; “the boys got excited when they saw PNG colours supporting them on. It means a lot to carry the colours of the country and to have fans abroad. We thank the Kaiulo family for their support, especially little champion Genailiwa Kaiulo.”

The PNG Barramundis now turn their focus to the Jersey Tour, where they will compete in a series of international fixtures. The team is confident the Guernsey trial matches have set the platform for a strong showing.
