UPNG Chancellor Sir Robert Igara has told NBC News he will issue an official statement on Tuesday, following a council meeting.

It follows the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Findlay.

Professor Findlay resigned with immediate effect today, Monday, November 2, after 15 months in the position.

In his resignation letter, he said ongoing disagreements with the Chancellor over the governance and management of the university had made it difficult for him to continue.

He also accused the Chancellor of alleged bullying and disrespect, referring to their confrontation at a special council meeting on October 28.

Professor Findlay said he had made progress in improving the university's finances, academic standards, administration and student services during his time in office.

However, he raised concerns over a recent student riot and claims threats to his personal safety had forced him to leave the country.

He said he remained proud of the reforms achieved and hoped.
