Central Governor Rufina Peter is set to take charge of the Christian Democratic Party parliamentary leadership, following her appointment , over the weekend.

Her appointment was made over the weekend as the party continues to develop its constitution, policy platform, membership structure and national organisation.

Founded in 1990's, the Christian Democratic Party was established on a vision of contributing to the leadership and development of Papua New Guinea.

CDP interim president Davis Steven has welcomed Governor Peter's appointment.

In formally accepting her appointment, the Governor expressed gratitude for the opportunity, not only to uphold Christian values but also maintain integrity of institutions and addressing issues affecting the nation.

Meanwhile, People's National Congress Party leader Peter O'Neill said he was aware of Governor Peter's appointment and wished her well in the new role.

The CDP currently has no elected parliamentary leader in the 11th National Parliament.

Now with Governor Peter taking over the leadership, CDP hopes to change this and strengthen its presence in the country’s political landscape.
