Girls studying at Hoskins Girls Technical School in West New Britain Province will benefit from improved classroom facilities following the commissioning of a new double classroom.

The K750,000 facility was funded by the National Department of Education under its infrastructure support programme.

Education Minister Francis Siune officially commissioned the new classroom at the school today, in the presence of West New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel and Nakanai MP and Oil Palm Minister Francis Maneke.

Minister Siune said the facility was an investment in the education of girls in the province. He also acknowledged the school’s board and management for their role in securing the funding.

"This school is privileged to have benefitted from the Infrastructure grant given by the Department of Education in 2022 and this support is also a testimony of the competency of the board and management," he said.

He said the National Government remained focused on implementing education reforms, with the department continuing to invest in the capacity of education institutions to deliver the changes to the curriculum.

The minister said the reforms were also placing greater focus on technical and vocational education, as well as Flexible, Open and Distance Education (FODE) institutions.

Meanwhile, Governor Muthuvel and Minister Maneke acknowledged the Department of Education’s support and called for more partnerships to improve education infrastructure in the province.
