Member for Samurai Murua Henry Isi Leonard has called on the Government to hold large emitters of greenhouse gases responsible for the rapid increase in natural disasters faced in the country.

Leonard cited the recent Tropical Cyclone Maila which hit Milne Bay’s Budi Budi and Woodlark islands, adding its now being coupled with the intensifying El Nino, resulting in water shortages among other severe impacts.

The Member for Samarai Murua also highlighted the need for a national shipping policy.

He says presently, the shipping industry is monopolized, with huge costs being passed onto consumers.
