Police officer identified in Rainbow drive by shooting

Police have confirmed a drive-by shooting outside Eliseo Rainbow Shopping Centre in Port Moresby this afternoon, identifying the alleged shooter as a police officer.
Assistant Commissioner of Police for NCD and Central Command, Benjamin Turi, confirmed the incident to NBC News but did not provide further details.
CCTV footage circulating on social media appears to show a grey, five-door Toyota Land Cruiser pulling out of the shopping centre before a man allegedly opened fire on another man standing near the Rainbow Big Rooster bus stop.
The man was among two others when the shooting occurred.
In a separate video circulating online, the victim, who is from the Highlands region, recounted what he said happened.
He claimed the occupants of the unmarked vehicle called out to him as they drove out of the shopping centre. He said he responded that he was heading to Four Mile before turning away to continue walking towards the bus stop.
He alleged that he was grazed by a bullet, after which the shooter approached him and searched his belongings. The shooter then returned to the vehicle and fled the scene, according to the victim.
Social media speculation has linked the shooting to killings reported over the weekend. However, police have urged the public not to spread unverified information.
In a statement on its official page, the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary confirmed that the alleged shooter had been identified as a police officer and would be dealt with accordingly.
ACP Turi urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation that could create fear among city residents.
Police investigations are also continuing into other recent incidents.
