The Hela Education Services signed has a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] with Kokoda Track Foundation [KTF] and ExxonMobil to commence Flexible Open Distance Education [FODE] program at Komo Secondary School.

A total of 200 students from the Komo Hulia district have already enrolled and will begin their studies next month.

ExxonMobil will fully pay for the students’ school fees, while teachers involved in the program will also receive allowances. This program provides a second-chance education pathway for school leavers who were unable to continue in the formal school system.

Hela Education Services Director Ronny Angu thanked KTF and ExxonMobil for their support.

“This assistance gives the unfortunate a real second chance,” Angu said.

He said FODE is already operating in Tari Pori, Koroba Kopiago and Magarima districts. The initiative aligns with broader youth development strategies, including schoolboys’ rugby league programs, to open doors for young people and curb law and order challenges across the province.

Kokoda Track Foundation and ExxonMobil also thanked Hela Education Services for its proactive leadership in building partnerships that support the Government’s Vision 2050, MTDP IV, the National Education Plan 2020–2029, and the Hela Education Implementation Plan 2023–2027.
