Body of missing American missionary found off Gavuvu coast

Police and provincial authorities have confirmed the recovery of an 18-year-old American missionary who drowned while swimming off Gavuvu Village in West New Britain Province.

The youth, a member of the Youth With A Mission [YWAM] organization, went missing yesterday afternoon while free diving after attending a church service at Baeau Memorial United Church.

His body was retrieved early this morning by divers, with assistance from the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Services Directorate and Kimbe Provincial Hospital staff.

The missionary was part of a group of eight young volunteers engaged in outreach work in the Hoskins area.

Officials are assisting YWAM representatives with repatriation arrangements
