PMV owners and operators who overcharge passengers under the newly approved fares have been warned that they will face hefty fines.

Independent Consumer and Competition Commission [ICCC] Commissioner Roy Daggy issued the warning on NBC’s Let’s Talk About It program in Port Moresby today.

The new PMV fares took effect Monday morning, with passengers paying a fare of K2 for all urban routes, regardless of distance travelled, including short trips such as from Foodland bus stop to 4-Mile bus stop.

Daggy says the ICCC will work closely with relevant authorities to ensure PMV and taxi operators comply with the approved fares.

Daggy emphasised that operators who fail to comply and overcharge passengers will face hefty fines.

Meanwhile, the ICCC will work with relevant authorities to ensure PMVs and taxis comply with the approved fares.
