5 new ministers appointed

Five new government ministers were sworn in by Governor General Sir Bob Dadae at Government House, this afternoon.

They include Vanimo Green MP Beldan Namah as Minister for Tourismn, Arts and Culture.

Kerema MP Thomas Opa fully takes on the Energy Ministry and also the Petroleum caretaker while Jimmy Maladina has been stood down to allow Australian Police investigate an alleged assault case filed against him.

Tewai Siassi MP Dr Kobby Bomareo retains his Housing and Urbanisation Portfolio.

Unggai Bena MP Kinofa Feo is in charge of Higher Education while Wapanamenda MP Mikki Kaeok takes on the Finance Ministry.

Speaking after the formalities, Prime Minister James Marape says these are highly qualified leaders appointed to fill in the vacant seats.

He says the appointment of the 5 brings the total Ministeries to 37.
