Police in Central Province have arrested a teenager from Gaire village in the Hiri Koiari District following an incident in which he smashed the back left window of a vehicle.

The arrest was made by the Central Quick Response Force [QRF].

Team Leader Jonathan Ilau, in an interview with NBC News, said the teenager was arrested after a concerned community member alerted police about his disruptive behavior.

The incident unfolded in Gaire, where the teenager, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was seen vandalizing the vehicle.

Occupants of the affected vehicle stopped their car and joined relatives in an attempt to block the road in retaliation. This caused further tension, calling for swift police response.

Ilau, a member of the QRF, said his officers intervened to de-escalate the situation and bring back public order.

He emphasized that police took this opportunity to remind the public about the dangers associated with engaging in illegal activities and the importance of seeking law enforcement assistance rather than resorting to actions that could lead to conflict.

The community leaders intervened and agreed to allow the suspect to receive medical attention before he was handed over to be dealt with by the law.

Ilau confirmed that all parties involved were instructed to report to the police for further processing.
He stressed the importance of transparency and cooperation from everyone involved to ensure that justice is served fairly and effectively.

This incident serves as a reminder of the critical need for community engagement and proactive law enforcement to uphold safety and order within society.
