Tuesday, 5 March 2024, 11:48 am
Member for Goroka Aiye Tambua made his first appearance in court this morning.
Mr Tambua appeared before Magistrate Paul Nii and arraigned on the charges laid against him.
Magistrate Paul Nii read out the 62 counts of sexual offences which were brought against Tambua.
He was arrested and charged Monday afternoon and locked up at Boroko cells.
Mr Tambua is on a K10,000 court bail after his lawyer successfully got approval from the District Court yesterday evening.
Magistrate Nii this morning said the Bail act has allowed bail hearings at any time of the day.
He extended Mr Tambua's bail after the arraignment this morning however on conditions that the defendant reports to court at all times during his appearances.
He says since the Goroka MP is a mandated leader he needs to report every time he travels out of Port Moresby to his electorate.
The Court adjourned to 4th April, 2024.
Mr Tambua is the third Pangu MP to appear in court on criminal allegations in this term of parliament.
His colleague MPs who have appeared in court include Sekie Agisa, Member for South Fly and Lohia Boe Samuel, Moresby North West MP who was freed from court last year from murder charges.
