Simbai youths lead community surrender program

Youths in the Simbai LLG area of the Middle Ramu district have taken a positive step towards restoring peace and good order by voluntarily surrendering their home-brewing bottles on Monday.
They also participated in the uprooting of marijuana plants during the community surrender program at Simbai station.
The event was witnessed by police personnel from Madang Town, whose attendance at Simbai was facilitated through the support of Middle Ramu District Development Authority (MRDDA) under the chairmanship of local MP, Kansol Harwai Kamdaru.
The program also received support from Simbai LLG president, Nehemiah Kapa, and other local community leaders, who contributed to the community engagement and reconciliation efforts.

The initiative follows ongoing social problems, community tensions, and law and order challenges, including the burning of the temporary council chamber.
It also builds on a previous successful reconciliation between Simbai Central and Kaigen Zones, marking an important step towards rebuilding trust, forgiveness, and unity amongst the communities.
The program aims to encourage youths to take responsibility, discourage illegal activities, and strengthen cooperation between communities, police and government authorities across all four zones of Simbai LLG, including Simbai, Kaigen, Asai and Kairong.
The initiative represents a collective commitment to restoring peace, protecting public infrastructure, rebuilding community relationships, and creating a safer environment for government workers, service providers, and development partners.
The ultimate goal, however; is to restore Simbai's dignity, strengthen public confidence, and ensure that education and other government services, plus development opportunities, reach the people without fear or disruption.
This program marks a positive step towards a new beginning for Simbai, where peace, unity, respect for the law, and community responsibility become the foundation for lasting development.
Leaders in the area said homebrew, marijuana, sorcery, and unsettled land matters are major issues contributing to the detriment in law and order in Middle Ramu district.
