Boxer James Paul advances as Team PNG reps nation in Scotland

Competition at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is underway with James Paul advancing to the next round of the Men's 65kg boxing competition with 3-2 points win over Rashield Williams of Bahamas in the Round of 32 last night.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s 60kg, female boxer Petronella Nokenoke represented with heart and determination in the Women's 60kg Round of 16 and the contest ended in favor of England's Lucy Kings-Wheatley [5-0] Win on Points].

Swimming was also featured yesterday in day one of competition with PNG swim team’s four Commonwealth Games debutants competing in the Women’s 50 meters Butterfly and the Men’s 100 meters Breaststroke

In the Women’s 50m Butterfly, 18 year old Joanna Chen 15 year old and Roxanne Kirarock both recorded new Personal Bests, clocking 31.90s and 32.25s respectively.

17 year old Jhnayali Tokome-Garap produced an outstanding swim of 30.29s to set a new Papua New Guinea National Record for the 17-year-old age group, breaking the previous record that had stood since the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In the Men’s 100m Breaststroke, Thomas Chen won his heat with a time of 1:09.87s, recording his fastest swim of the 2026 season.
