PPC Biam urges people not to politicize police recruitment drive

Intending candidates for the coming 2027 National General Election, supporters as well as the general public in Madang Province have been urged not to politicise the current police recruitment drive that is penetrating right down to the district level.

Provincial Police Commander for Madang, Superintendent Robert Baim made the call following rumors in the province that the exercise is tied to certain political leaders or is politically motivated.

Mr Baim said that as the nation approaches the 2027 NGE, the Royal PNG Constabulary is extending the recruitment drive into rural districts.

He clarified that the go-rural recruitment drive is an initiative of the Police Commissioner and is an institutional policy to improve police presence in the rural areas of the country.

“It is not a not a political exercise, and definitely not something that should be used for political point- scoring by any individual, political parties or intending candidates.

“This initiative has one purpose, which is to give a fair and equal opportunity to young men and women from the rural parts of the country, who too often miss out on such national opportunities just because of their geographical locations.

“The RPNGC is now giving them the chance to apply for raining and serve the country through the Constabulary,” Superintendent Baim clarified.

Baim added that for far too long recruitment drives have been concentrated around urban centres, leaving capable, willing and disciplined young people in remote and rural districts without a genuine pathway to a policing career. The Commissioner’s plan now changes that.

PPC Baim added, “By taking recruitment teams directly to rural areas, we are removing the barriers of distant, cost, and access that have historically disadvantaged rural applicants, not favouring one region, group, or electorate over another.

“I urge our people in Madang Province to see this initiative as a fair and inclusive national policy; aimed at strengthening the Constabulary with capable recruits from every corner of the country, both urban and rural. The products of this recruitment drive will serve all Papua New Guineans.”

Superintendent Baim stressed that any attempts to claim credit for this initiative, or to use it for political point- scoring ahead of the election, does a disservice to the young people.

“The RPNGC remains a professional, non- partisan institution and recruitment decisions will continue to be made on merit, fitness and suitability, nothing else,” PPC Baim said.

In Madang Province, the recruitment teams are currently in Bogia, Sumkar, Raikos and Usino/ Bundi doing the recruitment awareness and assisting applicants.
