Bando accepts move to Immigration Ministry
Former Coffee Minister William Bando says he respects Prime Minister James Marape's decision to appoint him as the new Minister for Immigration following the recent Cabinet reshuffle.
Mr Bando takes over the Immigration portfolio from Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso, who continues to serve as Minister for Lands.
In a statement, Mr Bando said the allocation of ministerial portfolios is the constitutional prerogative of the Prime Minister and should not be seen as a sign of disagreement.
He thanked the Board and Management of the National Coffee Authority, and everyone involved in the coffee industry for their support during his time as Coffee Minister.
He said the record production of 1.3 million bags of coffee was the result of the combined efforts of coffee growers, factory owners, exporters and industry stakeholders across the country.
"It was a privilege to serve as Minister for Coffee and work alongside the men and women of the
Industry during a period of important reform and growth.
"I extend my sincere appreciation to the Board and Management of the National Coffee Authority
[formerly known as the Coffee Industry Corporation Limited], whose professionalism, expertise
and commitment contributed greatly to the progress achieved during my tenure", Mr Bando said.
He also encouraged the continued implementation of the Green Gold Card program to ensure support reaches coffee farmers directly.
Mr Bando congratulated the new Coffee Minister, Miki Kaeok, and said he would support a smooth handover of the portfolio.
He said he now looks forward to serving the people of Papua New Guinea as Minister for Immigration under the leadership of Prime Minister James Marape.
