Mirane community seeks land royalty payment
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Lands John Rosso has asked Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Muguwa Dilu to provide the necessary documents relating to land royalty claims by the Enduka people of the Mirane community.
During question time in Parliament today, Mr Dilu asked when royalty payments for the alienated land in Mirane would be made.
He said the Mirane community had given up its customary land for a police barracks, which houses more than 50 police personnel, and for a nursing college that provides education to students from across the country.
Mr Dilu said the community had not received any compensation and had been following up on the matter for more than 15 years.
He asked the Deputy Prime Minister if he was aware of the documents submitted to his office and when the state would pay the Mirane community in recognition of the use of their customary land.
In response, Mr Rosso said the Kundiawa-Gembogl MP should bring the relevant documents to his office so the matter could be properly addressed.
"I would like the Kundiawa-Gembogl MP to approach my office with the necessary documents so we can resolve this issue," Mr Rosso said.
