Alotau District acquires Hagita land for new government hub
Alotau District has paid the first installment for a K2.3milion 54hectares land portion at Hagita, where they plan to establish a new district headquarters and a Polytech College.
It’s a race against time to establish the headquarter, given the impending district boundaries split come 2027.
The district, set for a split come 2027, is now in need of a new headquarters.
Its current one at Rabaraba station will now be the headquarters for the new Baniara Open Electorate.
Alotau MP Ricky Morris says they’ve been in talks with the Catholic Church and have acquired land for this purpose, a down payment has been made.
The district under Morris's leadership this entire term has also been hard at work, assisting to setup seat of Government and facilities for the new Baniara District, which, come 2027, will have its own district representation in Parliament going forward.
In this regard, Morris confirms the district has assisted Baniara with maintenance work to the Administration and Police buildings, housing for police personnel and more, while work has begun on their new Court House facility with support of the National Judiciary Staff Services.
