21st Asia media summit concludes

The 21st Asia media summit at the Republic of Maldives was officially closed yesterday after an intense four days of discussions surrounded at the core of traditional media to digital eco system of technologies, where content is created and discriminated worldwide.

Chief executive officer for the Asia Institute of Broadcasting Development, Ms. Philomena Gnanpragassm, in her closing remarks, said technology will continue to transform how media operates, but the value of media will always be measured by how responsibly and meaningfully it continues to serve the people.

She said throughout the week, discussions were based on how traditional media organizations should embrace the era of technology, especially artificial intelligence or AI.

Trust and responsibility in media in a time where misinformation and disinformation press faster than ever before, media organizations carry a greater responsibility in playing a vital role not only to inform but to protect and strengthen public trust and ensure that facts continue to matter in our society.

Ms. Gnanpragassm pointed out that traditional and social media should not always be viewed as competing spaces. They serve audiences differently, but both reflect how people connect, communicate, and engage with content today.

While on this note, Ms Gnanpragassm encouraged the participants of the 21st Asia media summit to continue to listen to young audiences and understand what makes content relatable and meaningful while preserving the values, credibility, trust and public responsibility that define professionalism in media.
