Winds and rainfall reach Alotau
Wind and rainfall have now reached Alotau Town, residents have been urged to stay indoors,secure property and be intentional in their movement as the category 3 Tropical Cyclone Maila comes through.
Personnel supporting the work of the established Provincial Emergency Operating Center were seen out and about yesterday, sounding a warning to residents to prepare for strong winds predicted to reach Alotau today and tomorrow.
At these stage, they are advising caution and common sense to avoid risks and to mitigate property damage.
Meantime, the travel restrictions issued earlier this week for especially sea going vessels has been stepped up, people now warned there will be penalties should they ignore these restrictions and place lives at risk.
Flights remain normal with none cancelled so far this week, with one flight today and is expected to arrive at 2:20pm.

The advice to move to higher ground, restrict movement unless necessary at this time and to secure property and stock up supplies remains the call till the weekend.
