Tokua Airport in East New Britain has been temporarily closed following heavy rainfall that flooded parts of the runway and taxiway.

The National Airports Corporation says continuous rain since Saturday, April 4, caused surface water runoff from outside the airport, leading to significant flooding on the airfield.

A Notice to Airmen [NOTAM] has been issued to advise airlines and pilots of the temporary closure until further notice.

The NAC team in Tokua is monitoring the situation and will provide updates once the airport is safe to resume normal operations.

Passengers, airlines and stakeholders are being asked for understanding and cooperation while efforts continue to restore safe operations.

Safety remains the top priority.
