About three thousand Catholic faithful in Madang Town participated in the Station of the Cross procession early this morning.

The 5km procession started at the Brick Market in Newtown and ended at the Holy Spirit Catholic Cathedral in town.

Those who participated included parishioners from the Jomba Parish and Holy Spirit.

The procession started as early as 3 A. M and ended after 9 o'clock at the 14th station inside the Holy Spirit Cathedral.

Amongst the processors were policemen and inmates from the Beon Correctional Institution who also helped carry the Cross of Christ.

The theme of this year's walk is "Walking in the footsteps of Christ."

Madang's Archbishop, Anton Bal; upon receiving the Cross at the Cathedral, said the Stations of the Cross procession was not just a mere walk, but a privilege to have a time to stand and walk with Christ.

To the youths, Archbishop Bal said he watched them carried the weight of the Cross today with so much vigor, adding they must continue to do the same throughout their entire lives.

He emphasised that with so many things happening in the world today, youths are the heartbeats of the Church, and they must not lose sight of Christ.

Archbishop Bal added that when they follow His footsteps, they will never lose their way in life.

He further stated today's pilgrim was a testament of their faith in Christ and that they must continue to let the Light of Christ shine in their everyday lives towards others.
