Eviction at Erima Wildlife area to resume after easter
The planned eviction at the Erima Wildlife area was temporarily put on hold over the Easter weekend, according to the National Capital District and Central Provinces police management.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chief Superintendent Benjamin Turi, confirmed that the eviction will proceed after the Easter break. He said police respected the rights of residents and wanted them to celebrate Easter peacefully. Normal police operations across the city continued throughout the holiday to ensure public safety.
“My message to the public and those residing there is to follow the proper process if you feel you have been mistreated. We are only doing our job to keep the city clean and safe. If you feel the police are too harsh, there are avenues such as the courts where you can seek help. We must start somewhere to make tough decisions for the good of our city,” Turi said.
He explained that residents had been advised in advance of the eviction date, which coincided with the Easter weekend. Police management therefore decided to defer the operation until after the holiday.
“As law enforcement officers, we are required to make hard decisions and carry out the orders given to us. Those residing in the designated area must adhere to the awareness provided and vacate the location,” Turi emphasized.
