Nawaeb DDA buys medical supplies to end drug shortage

Shortage of medical drugs will no longer be an issue in the Nawaeb District.

This is made possible, all thanks to the Nawaeb District Development Authority, which has purchased medicines worth K500,000.

Nawaeb MP Theo Pelgen, during the launching of the medicine roll-out, stressed the priorities in health.

Pelgen said, "we want to make sure, children are given the best health care, so we have purchased surplus of syrups to be able to last the whole year to next year. We want to zero on woman antenatal concerns, where many pregnant mothers die and that's something of our concern, but we do want everyone, male and female, everyone's health is treated well in the district."

He added, "As responsible DDA, we are assisting the government of the day, providing better health service to our people."

Situm Health Centre OIC, Joyce Benny, said they are grateful for the DDA stepping in to assist, especially for pregnant mothers.

"That's one of the most challenging parts of our work, that we face, seeing Defols run out of stock so fast, and it is very expensive on the shelves of our local pharmacies at the cost of K150.00 a pack of 40 tablets. Pregnant women need this to raise their hemoglobin, but because it runs out of stock fast, women's health is always at stake."

District Administrator Budz Botike said the medical supplies were purchased directly from a manufacturer in India, Saimerra Innopharm PVT LTD, and are now stored in a conducive place for distribution to 15 health facilities in the district.

Botike added the district has set aside K1 million for health, which will benefit the 80,000 population of the district for two years [2026-2027].

The medical supplies include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, creams, IVs, 50 wheelchairs and latest tech oxygen set up.
