NCDPHA marks World TB Day with launch of innovative program to detect TB
The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority [NCDPHA] has celebrated World Tuberculosis [TB] Day at Gerehu General Hospital with the launching of SSI TB Program.
The SSI TB Program is the new initiative that introduces an AI-powered portable X-ray machine designed to detect TB at its earliest stages.
It will greatly help them quickly identify TB patients and separating them from healthy individuals. While doing that, the technology helps stop the spread of the disease and strengthen public health in the National Capital District.
This significant event was joined by partners and government representatives from World Vision, the National TB Program, the National Department of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade [DFAT].
NCDPHA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Robin Oge, highlighted the importance of innovation and teamwork.
“The fight against TB requires both strong partnerships and modern solutions. The launch of the SSI TB Program, with its AI-powered portable X-ray machine, represents a breakthrough in early detection and prevention. Together with our partners, we are determined to reduce TB transmission and safeguard the health of our communities.”
Public Health Director, Dr. Amons Lano, emphasized the impact on community health:
“TB continues to challenge our health system, but today we take a bold step forward. By harnessing AI technology, we can identify TB cases earlier, treat patients faster, and prevent further spread. This program is a testament to our commitment to innovation, community health, and saving lives.”
The NCDPHA remains committed to delivering quality health services, strengthening public health systems, and building partnerships that improve the wellbeing of communities across Port Moresby and Motu Koitabu.
