The Papua New Guinea Nurses Association [PNGNA] has reiterated their call for a Sit in Protest if their Nurses Industrial Awards 2025 - 2027 are not implemented by the 31st of March 2026.

PNGNA President, Frederick Kebai, said this when providing an update on their demands today. [Wednesday]

Mr. Kebai said that even though the Health Minister has asked them to be cautious of the implications of a sit in protest, and the possible impact on patient care and safety, their demand still stands.

He said that although they acknowledge these concerns, they firmly reiterate that the nurses' welfare, rights, and lawful entitlements should not continue to be delayed or ignored.

Mr Kebai further said that the PNGNA executives are now awaiting clear official written instructions and confirmation from the Departments of Personnel Management and Health on the implementation timeline of the awards.

The National President says that their decision still stands, unless a breakthrough is achieved.

The PNG Nurses Association recently met over the weekend, and resolved to go for a sit in protest, if their demands are not met by the 31st of March 2026.
