Five beheaded in Northern province
Five men from Bakumbari Village in the Oro Bay North Local Level Government Council of Popondetta District of Northern Province, have died from a violent attack by a youth gang, who call themselves the "Don't Care" gang.
Reports reaching NBC News said the five men were beheaded by the gang members, who have also been harassing the public at large over the last two years, between the Bakumbari and Kikiri villages.
Eyewitnesses are now calling for an immediate intervention by those in authority from the National, Provincial, and Local Level Government, to restore normalcy within the affected villages.
The bodies of the five deceased, have been retrieved by Popondetta Police from Bakumbari village, in the presence of Northern Governor Gary Juffa, Works and Highways Minister Peter Tsiamailili Jnr, PPC Northern Chief Inspector Charles Winuwan, and the Provincial Administrator, Trevor Magei.
Bakumbari Village Councilor, Grayson Unini said, the five were all beheaded on the same day, and this will be recorded as the highest in the history of the province.
Northern Governor Gary Jufa said investigations are already underway, and witnesses have been urged to come forward and give their statements.
Another 13 people who have received major injuries, are now being treated at the Popondetta Provincial Hospital, while several others have been flown to Port Moresby for further treatment.
