2025 Climate Science Fair inspires future environmental and biodiversity leaders
A total of 121 students from five primary and secondary schools in the National Capital District recently participated in a 2025 Climate Science Fair hosted by the Port Moresby [POM] Nature Park under its Conservation and Education Program.
The event, themed "Boosting Biodiversity: Small Steps for a Wilder Papua New Guinea," highlighted innovative technologies and ideas developed by students to address climate change and promote biodiversity conservation.
ExxonMobil PNG [EMPNG], the operator of PNG LNG Project, was one of the sponsors of the fair and thirty staff from its head office in Port Moresby volunteered their time and expertise to support the event.
EMPNG staff led interactive sessions that introduced students to scientific tools used in biodiversity and environmental monitoring within the PNG LNG Project areas.
Students were engaged with equipment such as sound level meters, pH meters and camera traps, and also gained hands-on experience and practical insight into how each of these tool help monitor environmental health and wildlife activity over time.
ExxonMobil PNG Chairman and Managing Director, Dinesh Sivasamboo, thanked the Port Moresby Nature Park management, staff, and other stakeholders for organizing the event.
"The Park's ongoing commitment to education and conservation closely aligns with our company's core values and priorities," he said.
"We are so proud to do our part to support initiatives that foster environmental awareness and stewardship among Papua New Guinea's youth," he added.
Through its participation in the Climate Science Fair, EMPNG hopes to educate, inspire and spark curiosity and passion in the next generation-encouraging them to become future environmental ambassadors for Papua New Guinea.
Participating schools included St Charles Lwanga Secondary School, Koiari Park Primary School, The Institute of Christian Academy, Philip Aravure Primary School, and St Anne's Primary School.
