Hekari book final spot with 14-goal semifinal rout
Reigning Women’s Conference Soccer League champions Hekari United delivered a brutal statement of intent, demolishing New Guinea Islands champions Madwest FC 14–0 in a one-sided semi-final at the PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
After a brief spell of early resistance from Madwest, Hekari shifted through the gears and completely took control, turning the contest into a showcase of attacking dominance and depth.
Calista Maneo and Nenny Elipas led the first-half onslaught with two goals apiece, while Marie Kaipu and Ramona Padio added their names to the scoresheet to give Hekari a ruthless 6–0 lead at halftime.
The Erickson Komeng-coached side showed no mercy after the break, piling on eight more goals. Kaipu, Padio and Phyliss Pala each grabbed braces in the second half, while Hortence Kimit and Mavis Singara joined the scoring spree.
The emphatic win sends a clear warning to their grand final opponents, Lae City Dwellers, as Hekari now turn their focus to defending their title this Sunday at the PNG Football Stadium.
Lae City Dwellers booked their place in the final with an equally dominant 11–0 victory over Souths FC in Lae, setting up a blockbuster repeat of last year’s championship showdown.
