Demetriou: ‘Future is bright for Kumuls’

PNG Kumuls coach Jason Demetriou says the future of the PNG Kumuls is bright with very good talents coming through the system.
Demetriou made these remarks after the PNG Kumuls bowed out of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup last week.
He made special mentions of players like Christopher Petrus, Elijah Birve, Jared Horne and Philip Coates as PNG Kumuls prospects.
“We have some exciting players coming through over the next couple of years.
“Christopher Petrus came and trained with us, he is in the Parramatta system, Elijah Birve he played in the Junior Kumuls and then we have players like Jared Horne and Philip Coates who are in the NRL system.” Demetriou said.
Meanwhile, Junior Kumuls Coach Joe Grima also shared similar sentiments that the future of the PNG Kumuls is bright following their historic 18-10 victory over the Australia School Boys last month.
“We are going in the right direction.
“Since my involvement, coming to PNG three and a half years ago, we have developed some systems, and it gives us that assurance that those young men that we are investing time and energy into are coming to fruition.” Grima said.
