Djourne Fong triumphs at 2025 NGI snooker open

Djourne Fong has clinched the 2025 New Guinea Islands Snooker Open, defeating his brother Nathan in a thrilling final showdown.

With defending champion Marcus Ng absent, the field of 32 players was wide open. The Fong brothers seized the moment, battling their way to the grand final. In the end, it was the seasoned Djourne who outclassed Nathan with a 3-0 victory in the best of five frames, to lift the coveted NGI Snooker Open trophy.

Djourne walked away with the NGI Snooker Shield, winner’s trophy, and K4,000 in prize money. Nathan earned K2,000 and the runner-up trophy, while Monty Fong secured third place with K1,000, and Chris So’on Wai finished fourth with K500. The Fong brothers represented Kavieng, and So’on Wai represented Alotau.

In the women’s division, Maxwelline Gunabella of New Mosa Club edged out Annie Sitapai of San Remo Club to take the 2025 NGI Women’s Snooker title. Gunabella claimed K2,000 and the trophy, while Sitapai received K1,000. Jessica Oa finished third with K500, and Jennifer Marup came fourth with K250.

It was a weekend of high-stakes snooker, family rivalry, and thrilling performances across the board.
