Education budget commended
Education Minister Lucas Dawa Dekena has described the K4.9 billion allocation in the 2026 national budget, towards the sector, as a " national investment into the country's future wealth, stability and productivity."
He says this allocation represents a 3.4% of GDP or 16% of the national budget, an increase from 14.8% in 2025.
He added about K251 million from this will go towards teacher salary adjustments, aimed at improving teachers welfare and conditions, with plans to attract and retain them through having housing as a condition of employment:
Minister Dekena says for this year, about K860 million for fees have been remitted to date.
He added for next year, K950 million has been budgeted for the tuition fee free policy, calling on parents to also play their roles:
The Education Minister has commended the Government's support towards the sector, ensuring massive investments annually.
