Government establishes new National Monitoring and Coordination Authority
Government Chief Secretary Ivan Pomaleu has announced that the National Monitoring and Coordination Authority [NMCA] has now been officially established as an office under the Public Service Management Act.
He said Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae signed the notice on November 19, 2025, giving NMCA the same status as a government department for administrative and financial matters.
This means NMCA will now have its own budget and powers to manage its finances under the Public Finance Management Act. It will also take charge of national monitoring, coordination, and performance reporting for the government.
Mr Pomaleu said this is an important reform aimed at improving how government agencies work together, strengthening accountability, and ensuring that development programs are properly tracked and delivered.
With the gazettal completed, all legal requirements for NMCA to operate fully as a central agency are now in place. The next step will be the passing of the NMCA Bill in Parliament to formally establish it as a permanent statutory authority.
In a statement released today, Mr Pomaleu said further updates will be given as the legislation progresses.
