The Angangula Development Forum from Mendi in Southern Highlands Province will host a corporate fundraising dinner in Port Moresby this month to support its growing list of community development initiatives.

The event will take place on 20th March 2026 at the Dynasty Restaurant in Vision City and will bring together corporate leaders, state agencies, community representatives and invited guests.

Held under the theme, “Investing Today for The Empowerment of Future Generations,” the dinner aims to raise funds to sustain and expand the Forum’s community-based programs in Southern Highlands Province.

The Angaangula Development Forum is a registered association established by educated elites and local community leaders from more than ten council wards in Mendi. The platform focuses on rehabilitation, empowerment and sustainable development initiatives at the grassroots level.

Over the years, the association has rolled out various programs including SME development, basic training and skills development, water supply and sanitation projects, youth empowerment initiatives, and law and order awareness campaigns. It has also promoted women and girls’ participation in education and small business.

In addition, the Forum has supported school refurbishment projects, assisted with school fee payments for disadvantaged students, facilitated peace and reconciliation efforts, and coordinated the repatriation of deceased community members from Port Moresby back to their respective villages.

Despite operating without direct government funding, the association has continued to function as a complementary support system to government services in its communities.

Spokesman and Fundraising Chairman Joel Rami said invitations have already been extended to prominent organisations and individuals, and he is encouraging more people from Southern Highlands and beyond to support the initiative.

“We must not always wait for the government to support us. We need to find sustainable and innovative ways to help ourselves and create meaningful change in our communities,” Rami said.

The Forum’s executives also confirmed that the official launch of the association and the opening of its head office will take place in Southern Highlands Province following the fundraising dinner.

Organisers say the March 20 event is expected to strengthen partnerships and mobilise much-needed resources to continue empowering communities across the districts represented by the association.
