A vote of no confidence in Prime Minister James Marape is expected to be introduced in Parliament today, as the Opposition pushes ahead with its bid to change the country’s leadership.

Opposition Leader Douglas Tomuriesa confirmed with NBC News that a VONC motion was submitted to the Speaker's Office yesterday.

Former Prime Minister and Ialibu Pangia MP Peter O' Neill is the alternate nominee.

In response to this, Prime Minister Marape released a statement saying he welcomes the fresh no confidence motion as part of the democratic process.

Marape says this is not the first time O'Neill has tried to unseat him.

Since taking office in 2019, the Prime Minister has faced multiple political and legal challenges, including the 2020 political impasses and repeated attempts to destabilise his government.

However, he remains focused on governing and serving the people.

Mr Marape's confident the government will withstand this latest political move.
