First declaration made in Madang LLG election
Steven Igerup was the first to be declared today in Madang for the Local Level Government election just before noon today.
He was declared for Ward 23 in the Ambenob Local Level Government.
Polling in some LLGs in their province began yesterday with the first declaration made today the Danben council chambers.
Igerup was declared after the second elimination to retain his council seat for a second term.
Assistant Returning Officer for Ambenob LLG election, Luke Banag said polling and counting for Ambenob LLG are being done simultaneously due to the limited time frames being given by the Electoral Commission.
He stated there is not much time left, and that is why they have taken this approach.
Mr Banag commended the people of Ambenob LLG for their outstanding behavior and revealed that since polling yesterday, there hasn't been any reports of disturbances and thanked them for their cooperation to ensure smooth progress of counting until all seats are declared.
Banag explained that for the remaining council seats, counting will begin tomorrow at the LLG headquarters at Danben.
Meanwhile, policemen overseeing election security in Madang district have commended the people for their peaceful behavior during this time.
They said people are happy that they are finally casting their votes and do not want any kind of disturbances.
Polling is expected to conclude on Tuesday next week.
