Minor chaos in Mala Kinjibi, but voters stay in line

A ballot box from Mala 2 Ward in Mala Kinjibi was reportedly hijacked by supporters for reasons yet to be confirmed, and another destroyed in Kutunga ward because a fight broke out.

Six wards will go into polling in Dei today.

Despite the incidents, polling continued smoothly in the remaining wards.

The province joined others across the country in conducting Local Level Government elections yesterday, starting with the Dei District.

Polling in the area progressed smoothly, with men, women, youth, the elderly, and people with special needs patiently lining up to cast their votes.

Some eligible voters were turned away because their names were not on the 2024 updated common roll list, which the electoral commission is using for this LLG election.

NBC News visited Muglamp and Kotna LLGs, where voters queued to cast their votes. Polling ran smoothly, with only minor issues, including candidate disputes and scrutineers near booths that may have intimidated some voters.

Police were present in all the polling venues in the three LLGs of Dei District.

Voting for the Dei District yesterday continued past 6:30 pm while many wards reported voting completed, and ballot boxes were transported back to the Kimininga Police Barracks.

Rulna- the remotest part of the district - will complete polling today, given its remoteness and rugged terrain, as electoral materials arrived late yesterday.

Meantime, Western Highlands Province is using the one-day polling method however some areas might require extension of time due to its location.

Today, 28th October 2025 Mul Baiyer District will go to polls with its three LLGs Mul, Baiyer and Lumusa.
