Rosso intervenes to stop 3-mile evictions in Lae

Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Lae, John Rosso, has invoked special provisions of the Land Act to stop the planned eviction of residents living at 3-Mile in Lae by the Fresh Produce Development Agency [FPDA], scheduled for November 7th.
Mr Rosso, who is also the Minister for Lands and Physical Planning, informed the residents of 3-Mile during a gathering on Saturday afternoon near the 3-Mile Police Station.
The Fresh Produce Development Agency holds the title to the state lease over portions 866, 867, and 868, and had given residents one month, from October 7th to November 7th, to vacate the land.
Mr. Rosso said his intervention was based on humanitarian grounds, adding that he intends to use special provisions within the Lands Act to prevent the eviction.
