The Papua New Guinea Barramundis have returned from the ICC Cricket World Challenge League A in Jersey and are now fully focused on their next major assignment: the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia & East Asia-Pacific [EAP] Regional Final in Oman this October.

The Barramundis, who sit third in the Challenge League standings after the second leg, will use the coming weeks to sharpen their preparations for the T20 tournament. With qualification to the global stage on the line, the Oman campaign is being treated as a crucial step in PNG’s cricket journey.

To prepare, the squad will travel to Brisbane for a series of warm-up matches, supported by Queensland Cricket, before departing for Oman at the end of the month.

PNG will open its T20 World Cup Regional Final campaign against Samoa on 9 October, followed by a highly anticipated clash with hosts Oman on 10 October. Further fixtures will run from 12-17 October, depending on results in the qualification rounds.

Cricket PNG Chairman Michael Harrison said the Oman tournament provides another opportunity for PNG to demonstrate its growing presence on the international stage.

“Our boys showed great fight in Jersey, but the focus now is Oman. This tournament is crucial, and with hard work and national pride, we are confident the Barramundis will continue to lift PNG cricket,” Harrison said.

The Barramundis will resume training in Port Moresby immediately before their Brisbane tour and subsequent departure to Oman.
