Lae police hierarchy assures safety ahead of 50th Independence celebrations

The Lae police bosses have assured that the 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations in Lae and the province will be safe, regardless of recent threats made to police after criminals were shot dead by police.
The Lae Metropolitan Superintendent, Chief Superintendent Chris Kunyanban told NBC News, that security has been heightened up and strategic preparations are well underway to ensure the public’s safety in both the upcoming Morobe Show on the 13th and 14th of this month, followed by the Independence Celebrations kicking off on the 15th right to Independence Day on the 16th of September.
Confirming this for the Northern Command, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for Northern Command, Peter Guinness has maintained, that police presence will ensure the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations for Lae, as well as for the other provinces under the Northern Region will be safe.

ACP Guinness sounded a warning to anyone attempting to disrupt the celebrations in anyway, that the police will come down hard on you if you’re caught.
“Let me warn you that anyone attempting to disrupt the celebrations will be severely dealt with. We will utilize every available resource to deal with you according to the rule of law if you do not respect our country.”
“We only get to live and witness a Golden Jubilee once in a lifetime, so for us to be alive today to witness our country’s 50th Independence Golden Anniversary is an honor that we must be proud of. Let us all celebrate this milestone respectfully and not cause unnecessary commotions,” he warned.
ACP Guinness went on to send a specific warning to the associates and family members of criminals who are issuing threats to police officers on social media, that he will make sure his officers track them down and deal with them.
“Let me be crystal clear to the would-be supporters or sympathizers and family members, who are sending threats out to my police men and members of the public because their relatives were shot dead by the police officers, that we will find you.”
“We know where you are and we will come to your doorstep and deal with you right there and then. Police are only executing their constitutional duties to protect lives and properties and that’s what they did. If you feel the need to challenge the police, you can take me and the Police Department to court and let’s settle it there,” he warned.
Sounding the same, the Lae Metropolitan Superintendent, Chris Kunyanban said police under the Lae Metropolitan Command will not bow down to any criminal elements.
“We will not bow down to criminals especially in Lae. We have a mandated duty as guided by the law under the constitution to protect lives and properties and we will not do so without fear, malice or ill-will so we will come for you,” he declared.
