Yangoru-Saussia gears up for infrastructure milestones ahead of 50th anniversary

After more than two decades of anticipation, the people of Yangoru-Saussia are celebrating the near completion of a transformative infrastructure project: the new Yangoru Station Bridge.
Local Member of Parliament and Minister for International Trade and Investment, Richard Maru, expressed satisfaction upon receiving visual updates of the bridge’s progress, calling it a “moment of pride” for the district.
“Yes, finally after over 25 years!” Maru declared. “I woke up this morning very happy and satisfied to see pictures of the construction work. I would like to see the bridge completed and in use before September 16.”
The bridge, which spans the Heimbile River, is part of a broader development push funded by the Marape-Rosso Government and executed through the Department of Works and Highways. The steel frames were supplied by the national government, while the Yangoru-Saussia District Development Authority [DDA] covered logistics and construction costs.
Alongside the bridge, construction is progressing on the new Yangoru-Saussia District Police Headquarters. The roof installation is currently underway, and the community is eagerly awaiting its completion. The upgraded and sealed road from Yekimbole to Haripmo is also nearing readiness, promising improved connectivity and safety.
Adding to the district’s momentum is the upcoming launch of Phase 2 of the Sepik Fresh Farm. With a K30 million investment, the expansion will double the farm’s size and create 100 new jobs, further energizing the local economy and food production sector.
A grand opening celebration is scheduled to take place between September 16 and the end of the month. The event will mark the official opening of the bridge, police headquarters, road upgrades, and the Sepik Fresh Farm expansion. It will also serve as a symbolic kickoff to Yangoru-Saussia’s 50th Independence Anniversary, ushering in a new era of growth and opportunity.
