Counting underway for Aitape-Lumi by-election

Counting for the Court-ordered Aitape-Lumi By-election commenced yesterday [Saturday, August 2] in Aitape Town.
The process, which began at 10 am, saw six ballot boxes counted, consisting two from Aitape Urban LLG and four from Aitape East LLG.
United Resource Party candidate Anderson Mise is currently leading with 3,591 votes, followed by National Alliance Party’s Patrick Pruaitch with 1,989 votes.
Other candidates include Tony Christie Waisi [Model Nation Party] with 1,068 votes, Canisius Kapu with 147, Daniel Reim Abiazah with 142, and Paul Aisir with 42 votes.
Returning Officer John Awas suspended counting late yesterday and announced that counting will resume today at 11 am, starting with the remaining three ballot boxes for Aitape East LLG.
