CPL Group sells Stop & Shop chain to Taylor Pacific

CPL Group of Companies today announced the sale of its Stop & Shop retail stores, including food service brands Bon Cafe and Fresh Express, to Taylor Pacific Limited, a PNG-based investment company.
The acquisition of all seven Stop & Shop outlets in Port Moresby follows the completion of a Confidential Heads of Agreement between the two parties in early June.
Taylor Pacific has a growing presence in PNG’s agriculture and livestock sectors. It previously acquired Hugo Canning, the producer of the iconic Ox & Palm Corned Beef, and Sepik Fresh Poultry Farm. The company also plans to develop a new poultry and beef production facility in Vanapa, Central Province.
CPL Group’s decision to divest aligns with its renewed strategic focus on its core mission—delivering affordable and accessible healthcare to the people of Papua New Guinea.
“This decision reflects our commitment to long-term value creation for shareholders and operational focus,” said CPL Group Chairman Stan Joyce. “We are confident Taylor Pacific will continue to uphold the strong community ties and service standards that define the Stop & Shop brand.”
CPL Group founder Sir Mahesh Patel added, “We are immensely proud of the legacy Stop & Shop has built over the past two decades across Papua New Guinea. We look forward to seeing the brand continue to thrive under Taylor Pacific’s stewardship.”
Both CPL and Taylor Pacific have assured that all current Stop & Shop staff will retain their employment, and customers can expect business to continue as usual.
