Rare conjoined twin birth in Wewak ends in tragedy

Two conjoined twin girls born at East Sepik Provincial Hospital on Monday tragically died just a day after their birth, despite intensive medical care.
The twins, delivered alive at around 2:00 p.m. to a mother from West Yangoru, were immediately placed in the hospital’s nursery under close observation. Medical staff worked to stabilize the newborns, but complications related to their rare condition proved fatal.
The heartbreaking case has drawn attention to the significant challenges faced by provincial hospitals in managing rare and complex births.
The mother, whose identity has not been disclosed for privacy reasons, is in stable condition and continues to receive support from Boram hospital staff.
