Newborn rescued from pit toilet in Ligga

A newborn baby boy was miraculously rescued from a pit toilet yesterday in Kavieng, New Ireland province.
The infant was found near the Ligga United Church area, thanks to the quick actions of local residents and students from Mangai Agro Secondary School.
The shocking discovery unfolded when community members and students heard faint cries coming from beneath the ground. Following the sound, they found the infant lying inside a pit toilet with his head resting on the rim of an old tyre, his body partially submerged in human waste.

Without hesitation, the group tore down a structure to reach him. A male student was lowered into the pit and retrieved the baby, handing him to a mother in the crowd who quickly cleaned and comforted him.
As of 6:00 pm. last evening, Kavieng Maternity Ward reported no official record of the incident, according to Health Extension Officer, Dash Chee, who spoke with NBC News. NBC News continues to gather further details surrounding this developing story.
