Hela Provincial Government releases K7 million for school fee subsidy

The Hela Undialu Education Foundation [HUEF] program has allocated K7 million this year for Hela student.
Students attending tertiary institutions around the country including those selected from Hela Flexible, Open and Distance Learning [FODE] and Techanical Vocational Education Training [TVET] sent to study at Parul University in India will benifit from this funding.
Hela Governor Philip Undialu said this funding will support a total of 3,314 students.
Governor Undialu said this initiative was launched in 2018 and over the years the assistance has been consistence with the funding support received from Mineral Resources Development Corporation Group and ExxonMobil PNG.
“Over the last seven years, the Hela Provincial Government through HUEF has provided between K40 million to K50 million in direct financial support to students.
“This initiative is not a full sponsorship package, but rather a relief for struggling students and their parents.
“Without this support, parents would have spent between K40 million to K50 million during these seven years or many unfortunate students from poor family backgrounds would have withdrawn from their studies and remained at home,” Governor Undialu said.
He said oil and gas resources will not last forever, but education will and through education Hela province can see greater impacts and he believe investing in Education is way foward for the people.
