Gabmazum Primary School, situated in Nazab just outside Lae, is on the verge of being upgraded to a Junior High School. The announcement was made by Morobe Governor Luther Wenge during the opening of a new four-in-one classroom at the school recently.

Governor Wenge, who officiated at the classroom’s commissioning, assured the school and community that efforts were underway to facilitate the elevation of the institution’s status. He tasked two senior education inspectors, Kwinda Trenian and Gibson Dom, with handling the paperwork required for the transition.

In his address, Wenge also revealed plans for the proposed relocation of Morobe’s township to Nazab, citing the strategic importance of Gabmazum Primary as a key institution in the region's development.

"This school, in the heart of Nadzab, must be elevated to Nadzab Lutheran Day High School," Governor Wenge said. "I will ensure another four in one classroom is built here, under the same contractor, BFN Construction."

Head Teacher Stanley Mamil, who has served at Gabmazum for the past four years, called on the community including parents and citizens to unite in their efforts to reach this milestone.

“We will not give up; we will continue working together to elevate this school to the next level,” Mamil stated. “Through initiatives like growing and selling watermelons, along with other fundraising activities, we have been able to construct a classroom, build a teachers’ house, and secure a reliable water supply for the school.”

The newly completed four in one classroom was built at a cost of K500,000 under the Morobe Provincial Service Improvement Plan [PSIP]. This is part of a larger K1 million allocation made by Governor Wenge, with the remaining balance set to fund the construction of another four-in-one classroom at the school.
